It’s well known that IBM Cognos TM1 is the solution of choice for planning, reporting and analysis in the office of finance throughout organizations of all sizes across the world. But what’s less well known is that many of those same organizations have extended their use of TM1 into operations. And we’ve been there working with our clients to do the same.
Here is an example of our work with a client to bring TM1 into operational analytics. We leverage the power and flexibility of TM1, and just apply it to different types of data.
One of our clients, a national airline, wanted to better analyze flight metrics in order to make more informed and strategic decisions and to identify and fix problem areas. The airline wanted to be able to use detailed flight data to create trending reports, which would provide greater insight into the day-to-day and long term operations of the business.
We built an operational analytics solution using IBM Cognos TM1 that includes statistical information such as equipment type, flight origins, flight destinations, haul length (short, medium, or long), and various passenger and timing values. Now, the airline can track and analyze a number of metrics including average seat miles, revenue per passenger mile and whether or not the flight arrived a specific number of minutes within its scheduled ETA.
