Did you know there is a function to dynamically retrieve your database server name in IBM Planning Analytics for Excel (PAx)?
When creating reports and input templates in Planning Analytics for Excel you must reference the TM1 server name you are pulling/pushing data to. You might have one TM1 server for development and another for production. This becomes a hassle for reports/templates because you need to either keep a copy of each report/template for each TM1 server or you need to manually change the server name. TM1PRIMARYDBNAME solves this issue.
In order to use this function simply enter “=TM1PRIMARYDBNAME()” and sign into your TM1 server. There are no parameters associated with this function. Once you are connected to your TM1 server the function will display the server’s name.
Disconnecting from one TM1 server and connecting to another will produce the new server’s name.
This allows for one report/template to seamlessly transition from one TM1 server to another assuming the cubes, dimensions, elements, etc. are the same on each server.
